Fitness Branding Photos with Rekah K.
A few weeks ago, I got to collaborate with Rekah Kagawan to create some branding images that she will use to promote herself as a Tacoma, WA based barre and yoga instructor. If you want to catch a class with Rekah, she currently teaches at Pure Barre Tacoma and Expand Yoga. For this shoot, Rekah and I met at Discovery Park in Seattle 90 minutes prior to sunset. We made a boho market bouquet, played in the tall grass, walked the bluff trail, and then made our way down to the beach. It was perfect — playful and unhurried.
Soft cloudy lighting always makes for the best portraits.
The grass is lovely for yoga.
The sun dropped below the cloud deck and gave us some creamy golden light.
We lingered on the beach into blue hour, soaking in every last bit of sunset colors.
Longer sessions give us photogs time to play with our creativity. This image was created using a prism. I am always happy to add-on more time to my base packages — just ask! :)
This park offers so much diverse natural foliage to play with. Come July, the meadow of sweet peas are in bloom…
If you envision headshots in the tall grass, this Discovery Park beach has some pockets of it left, even in the dead of winter.

It was a little chilly, but we kept warm by keeping moving. I always recommend bringing a warm jacket to wear between shots for fitness shoots to keep your muscles warm if the weather is on the cooler side.
Everyone gets a hair flip photo during my sessions!

Although I love outdoor shoots, certain types of shoots call for studio space and I can build a package that fits your needs. I use peerspace.com to rent studio spaces as needed.

Branding Photos with Dev The Yogi
This last fall, I had the honor of taking branding photos with Dev The Yogi, a Tacoma-based yoga instructor. Although she calls Tacoma home, Dev has traveled far and wide across the globe as both a yoga student and a teacher. Her love for the practice is apparent in the way she carries herself and the way she interacts with the world. For this session, Dev wanted updated headshots for her website, social media content to promote her classes and workshops, and we even ended up capturing an image that felt so true-to-brand that she used it to give her backbend book a facelift and fresh cover.
We chose Lighthouse Park in Mukilteo as our location for this session. This spot offers a peaceful ocean view, as well as options to play with direct light or shade. The soft grassy lawn by the lighthouse is a great spot to do yoga. Dev loves that golden look, so we chose to shoot at golden hour — that magical hour before the sun sets when it kisses the world with soft, flattering, golden light.
After we played around in the grass, we moved on to the beach :) My favorite sessions are when we leave with sandy feet and cheeks sore from smiling — this was one of them!
Dev has this contagious laugh that lights up a room and I think her curious, warm, fun-loving spirit really came through in her branding photos.

Outdoor newborn photos!
It’s that time of year when golden hour starts at 3:30pm and leaves crunch underfoot. Seattle has had an unseasonably cold yet sunny fall and family photographers are rejoicing for the gift of golden light. This adventurous family opted to layer up and take their newborn baby outside to catch that golden glow for their November photo session. Mom layered a thermal layer beneath baby’s adorable onesie and brought a bunting suit, a blanket and a hat as layering options. I always recommend bringing a color-coordinating blanket to our sessions together. We can wrap babies in them, throw em on the ground for a picture-perfect cuddle session, or using them as a fun prop for school-aged kiddos. I have a few dates on the calendar left for fall and plenty for winter if bundled-up and cozy is the kind of art that you dream of creating together.
